POOR FURBALL...A stick came close enough to scare her, and she lost her footing on the icy tree. There was no other way...Grandmom knew that. But she was afraid for Furball as she watched her fall out of the sky. She was about a hundred feet up, and she was about to come down. She brushed past several small limbs, and then she was clear. There was nothing between Furball and the ground...nothing but the hopes and prayers of someone who loved her very much.

SHE'S FLYING!
The air was so cold and heavy that Grandmom could hardly breathe. It didn't matter. She was holding her breath anyway. It was one of those special moments when you know something extraordinary is about to happen. And it's scary but wonderful, all at the same time. "Come on, baby," Grandmom whispered. "I know you can do it."

It's Raining What?

Grandmom couldn't believe what she saw. Furball spread out all four legs like two sets of wings. Her descent slowed and she became buoyant. She hovered in the air, seeming not to move. And then, her body straightened and her head aimed downward. And with her tail acting as a rudder...Furball began to fly! It was like she flew forever, in a slow downward slant. Nearby birds stopped in mid-air to take a look at her. Slow and steady...down she came...until she landed as softly as the snowflakes falling around her. The powers that be had protected little Furball, and set her carefully on the ground at Grandmom's feet. Of course, she promptly ran under a mountain of brush and Grandmom had to literally dig her out the next day. But, as they say...that's another story!

Furball got really sick with a virus that gave her blisters in her mouth.  Grandmom and I were really worried, but now she's fine again...and onery as ever.
